Amada tooling replacement

Amada is a based in Japan. Replacement tooling made to the Amada 13 mm tang can be supplied as an aftermarket equivalent; it is not genuine Amada tooling.

What is the Amada tooling system?

Amada supplies tooling under the Amada 13 mm tang. If your machine is already equipped with this system, replacement tools are specified to match it — the tang geometry, the working height and the retention method all have to agree, not just the nominal size.

How are Amada catalogue numbers structured?

Amada machines use their own 13 mm tang interface. Aftermarket tooling for these machines is correctly described as Amada compatible rather than Amada original. The tang width is close to European tooling, but punch heights and clamp geometry differ, so the two families do not interchange without an adapter.

  • A catalogue number identifies the profile; it does not replace measuring the tool.
  • Worn or reground tools keep their number but lose working height.
  • Where a brand publishes an official decoding key, that key is authoritative — not third-party guesses at what the digits mean.

How are Amada AFH catalogue numbers structured?

Amada's AFH standard catalogue uses ES numbers for punches and ED numbers for dies, each followed by seven digits. In the published catalogue the first three digits of the number match the tool profile printed in the section heading — ES 814xxxx sits under AFH Acute Angle Punch 814, ES 841xxxx under AFH Gooseneck Punch 841, ED 077xxxx under AFH Standard Die 077. Staged dies use a four digit profile beginning with 1, for example 1748 or 1778. This is an observation from the catalogue layout rather than a published key: Amada does not publish a decoding rule for the remaining digits, and the V opening is taken from the section heading, not from the number.

  • A catalogue number identifies the tool and its length combination; it does not replace measuring the tool.
  • The same profile often carries several numbers, one per standard length.
  • Worn or reground tools keep their number but lose working height.

Amada AFH catalogue number samples

The numbers below are real catalogue numbers taken from the Amada AFH catalogue (559 distinct numbers were extracted from that catalogue). They are shown so you can recognise the format of the number stamped on your tool. Fields we could not tie to a specific number with confidence are left as a dash rather than filled in.

What should I send to identify a replacement?

If your catalogue number is not listed, send us the number together with a photograph of the tool and a ruler shot of the tang. We will confirm the system, angle, radius, height and segment length before you order.

  1. The catalogue number stamped or laser marked on the tool.
  2. The angle and tip radius, if legible.
  3. The working height from shoulder to tip.
  4. The total length and any segment combination.
  5. A photograph of the tool and of the tang with a ruler in shot.
Manufacturer names and catalogue numbers on this page are used only to identify the tooling system a customer already owns, so that a compatible tool can be selected. This site is not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by any of the manufacturers named. Tools described as compatible are aftermarket equivalents made to fit the named system; they are not genuine parts from the original manufacturer.
